Quarantine Letters: Spread Love During This Tough Time

Currently we are all practicing social-distancing and quarantining which has definitely flipped our world upside-down. Things are different- to say the least. Most of us are spending our days at home away from our extended families and friends. Face-time is great but there is nothing like receiving a good ole fashioned handmade letter in the mail. My son and I decided to make “quarantine letters” to send out to those we love. It was so much fun! We are going to keep creating more and more and keep sending them out!

Materials for Quarantine Letters:

  • Envelopes
  • Paper/cardstock or pre-made card layouts if you have (that’s what we used)
  • Any craft supplies you have laying around- (markers/paint/crayons/pom poms/stickers/confetti/etc.)
  • Glue/tape
  • Pen/marker for filling out your cards
  • Stamps (so you can mail those lovely cards!)

Step One:

If you are using cardstock/paper, fold it so that it looks like a card. You can cut the paper in half horizontally (leaving you with two separate pieces.) Next, fold over one of the sheets vertically so it now looks like a little card. You can make a second card with the left over piece you cut and didn’t yet fold.

*Another option is to cut any shape (as long as it will fit in the envelope) and do a one sided card.

Step Two:

Start decorating! Use any of the craft supplies you gathered and let your kids make whatever fun designs they want- go crazy! Jackson added crayons, stickers, feathers, glitter, stamps, confetti and dot markers to his cards. He went wild!

Four "quarantine letters" in different colors- orange, green, yellow and peach. All the cards are decorated with confetti, feathers, glitter and paint.

Step Three (optional):

Next, decorate the back of your envelope for a fun little surprise when they go to open it. Jackson added dot markers, crayons and stickers to the back of his envelopes. We did the backs of the envelopes only because there are certain rules you have to follow when decorating the front of envelopes. I didn’t want to restrict his creativity so I had Jackson decorate the back only- this way he could go crazy.

Four envelopes (the backs are pictured) decorated with paint, crayons, and stickers.

Step Four:

Once you have written out your card, sealed it in the envelope and put the stamp on- mail it! Then go make some more quarantine letters and keep spreading the love!

Four completed quarantine letters with decorated envelopes to match. All cards are decorated with feathers, paint, stickers, confetti and glitter.
First round of quarantine letters completed! Jackson did a great job and loved making these!

Hope you all enjoy making/sending your quarantine letters!

Happy sending!
